Take note – story published 3 years ago

Twenty-nine new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Latvia on September 26, the total since the start of the pandemic rising to 1,654 as a result.

No new deaths were recorded, with the fatality toll remaining on 36, but Saturday is another day with the case total in the dozens rather than single figures.

The Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said 2,520 tests had been conducted during the previous 24-hour period.

In total 309,172 tests have been carried out since February 29.

So far 1,304 patients have recovered from infection.

Five patients are in hospital, all of whom are described as having moderate symptoms of the disease.

SPKC said that 17 of the cases had  "known infection sources". Two people were infected in Ukraine and other infection sources are still being investigated.

On September 25 the 14-day cumulative number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 of population was 7.6 in Latvia, 31.2 in Lithuania and 35.9 in Estonia according to data from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Latvia's rate remains the lowest in the European Union and one of the lowest in the world, but has been on an upward trend during the past week.

The threshold for the introduction of compulsory self-isolation upon arrival in Latvia is 16. See our other story about the latest list of countries which require self-isolation for people arriving in Latvia, which comes with a PDF attachment for your convenience. The country list is updated every Friday afternoon.
