Take note – story published 2 years ago

On Sunday, September 5, Latvia recorded 358 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the total number of positive cases, 246 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 112 were fully vaccinated.

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 144,518.

Of 12,861 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 2.8% were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 169.3 Saturday to 183.4 Sunday. That means the current Covid threat is rated 'red' or 'high' according to the official four-color traffic light system.

One additional Covid-related death was confirmed, of a person aged 80-89 years. The death toll since the start of the pandemic stands at 2,585.

This official vaccination Twitter account has started a series of explanatory pieces (in Latvian) on subjects such as why vaccination does not always prevent Covid-19 infection but greatly reduces the risk of developing more serious symptoms. Respected journalist Arnis Krauze poses the questions to qualified medical professionals.

Meanwhile, in Estonia 255 new Covid cases were registered and in Lithuania 581 new cases were recorded.
