674 new Covid-19 cases in Latvia on Wednesday

On Wednesday, September 22, Latvia recorded 674 new cases of Covid-19 infection, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of the total number of positive cases, 545 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 129 were fully vaccinated. 

The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 151,917. 

Of 27,216 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 2.5 % were positive.

The 14-day cumulative infection rate per 100,000 inhabitants rose from 332.8 Tuesday to 344.1 Wednesday, taking morbidity deeper into the 'dark red' or 'very high' risk classification, the highest of the four alert categories under the 'traffic light' system. 

Sadly, there was also news of 7 more Covid-related deaths. The deceased were all aged between 60 and 99 years.

The death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,665.

There are currently 357 people being treated for Covid-19 symptoms in Latvian hospitals, of which number 45 are displaying serious symptoms.

Meanwhile, in Estonia there were 687 new Covid cases, and in Lithuania 1,402 new coronavirus infections from Covid-19 were recorded over the past 24 hours.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv/.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme.

All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
