Of 7,874 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 12% were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population rose from 536.1 Thursday to 551.9 Friday.
Unfortunately, five more Covid-related deaths were confirmed. All of the fatalities were aged 60 years or over and two of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,494.
Friday data from the National Health Service show 466 patients being treated in hospital with 82 displaying serious symptoms.

December 23 saw 961 people getting a first vaccine shot, 1,174 getting a second shot and 4,357 getting a third booster shot. So far just over 1.3 million people of Latvia's 1.9 million population have received at least one Covid vaccine.
In the other Baltic states, Estonia reported 711 new cases and 4 deaths, and Lithuania reported 1,581 cases and 21 deaths.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.
Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
