A January 30 charity concert with the participation of a pleiade of Latvian music stars has raised €110,000 for cancer patients.

It was organized by Latvian Television, together with the Ziedot.lv charity website.

"It shows to politicians and Health Ministry officials that Latvian residents find it important to save peoples' lives and give them idea to be with their loved ones for a longer time," said Ziedot.lv head Rūta Dimanta.

"I think that each year we can give to each person is of great value. And Latvia showed it yesterday," she said.

The concert, titled Music and Life. United for opportunity collected money for 30 cancer patients.

Among the participants were a number of bands including Iļģi, Tumsa, Pienvedēja piedzīvojumi, Musiqq, Astro'n'aut, The Sound Poets and others.

Cancer is very much in the public eye as an LTV journalist and musician Valters Frīdenbergers is undergoing treatment in the Charite hospital in Berlin. The Latvian state cannot always help cancer patients get the best treatment available.
