The highest daily total so far remains December 31, when 1,861 new infections were confirmed, while Thursday brought 1,374 new cases.
The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic now stands at 47,782.
Of 12,799 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, 9.7% were positive, down slightly on the 10.2% rate the previous day.

Eleven more deaths were also confirmed January 8. Of those, one person was aged 55-60, three were aged 60-70, four were aged 70-80, and three were aged 80-90 years of age.
In total 801 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
The National Health Service (NVD) said that during the last 24 hours 734 people were vaccinated, bringing the total so far to 5,354. Prime Minister Krišjānis Kariņš has said the pace of vaccination needs to be increased considerably.

Meanwhile in Lithuania 1,993 new cases of COVID-19 and 28 deaths were recorded Friday, and in Estonia the figures were 788 cases and 5 deaths.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces, and there are restrictions on what goods can be bought from stores.

The current state of emegency runs until February 7 and the current "quiet period" restrictions regarding Covid-19 until January 25.

All arrivals (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv. From January 15 arrivals will also need to show a negative Covid test from a maximum 72 hours before arrival or proof of vaccination.
