Covid-19 case total rises to 43,118

January 4 in Latvia saw 621 new Covid-19 cases recorded, according to the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

The highest daily total so far remains December 31, when 1,861 new infections were confirmed.

The total number of cases since the start of the pandemic now stands at 43,118.

Of 5,550 tests carried out in the last 24 hours, 11.2% were positive, up on the 9.6% rate the previous day.

Twelve more deaths were also confirmed January 4. Of those, one victim was aged 55-60, four were aged 65-70, three were aged 70-80, three were aged 80-90 and one was aged 90-95.

In total 692 people have now died in Latvia as a result of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.

Meanwhile in Lithuania 1,361 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded Monday, and in Estonia the figure was 390 cases.

Use of nose and mouth coverings is compulsory in all public places indoors, including workplaces, and there are restrictions on what goods can be bought from stores.

The current state of emegency runs until February 7. 

The number for medical emergencies is 113.

All arrivals (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv.
