Covid-19 infection rate fell slightly last week in Latvia

The number of tests has not changed significantly, but the proportion of positive tests has decreased. Latvia's 14-day cumulative rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the fifth week of the year was 577.1, but on February 14, it was 548.6, according to data from the SPKC.

A total of 98,325 tests have been performed in Latvia over the past seven days and the average rate of positive tests has decreased to 7.2% from the rate of 8% seven days ago.

The number of tests has decreased by 1.1%, with an average of 9,761 tests per day (9,873 tests per day seven days ago).

A total of 4,906 new infections with Covid-19 were recorded last week, compared with 5,559 new cases seven days ago.

The reduction has been observed in all regions except Kurzeme and Pierīga, where there is a slight increase. 

The factor of reproductivity of Covid-19 infection calculated by epidemiologists in Latvia is currently 0.92 (above 1 a week ago). This means that 92 other people are infected by 100 those already sick.

The number of patients in hospital has decreased by 9.7% over the past seven days, with an average of 84 Covid-19 patients daily being hospitalized. According to data from the National Health Service (NVD) on February 15, 939 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in hospitals, 88 people with severe symptoms.
