Eleven Covid deaths Wednesday in Latvia

Another 748 new cases of Covid-19 infection were added to Latvia's total Wednesday, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of that total 389 were unvaccinated persons, or persons not fully vaccinated, and 359 were fully vaccinated. The total number of cases detected since the start of the pandemic now stands at 269.204.

Of 9,045 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 8.3% were positive. The 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population dropped slightly from 530.2 Tuesday to 527.6 Wednesday.

Sadly, 11 more Covid-related deaths were confirmed. All of the fatalities were aged 50 years or over and three of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the start of the pandemic now stands at 4,477.

Wednesday data show 512 patients being treated in hospital with 84 displaying serious symptoms.

December 21 saw 1,278 people getting a first vaccine shot, 1,448 getting a second shot and 7,057 getting a third booster shot. So far just over 1.3 million people of Latvia's 1.9 million population have received at least one Covid vaccine.

Meanwhile Estonia reported 725 new cases and 2 deaths, and Lithuania reported 1,665 cases and 23 deaths.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv
