Flu intensity goes down in Latvia

Last week, from February 20 to February 26, the average intensity of influenza in Latvia continued to decrease, with children under 4 years of age most affected by influenza, according to information from the Disease Prevention and Control Center on March 1.

A total of 116.2 cases of influenza per 100 000 inhabitants have been reported in the last week (previous week 199.9).

In the practice of family doctors, 86 clinical influenza cases were reported last week, the most commonly reported in Daugavpils and Rīga.

The highest incidence of influenza was recorded in children aged 0-4 years (176.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

42 hospitalized patients with influenza, most commonly in the age group 65+ years, were reported from hospital treatment facilities involved in monitoring. Nine hospitalized patients with influenza-induced pneumonia were also reported.

A total of 45 reports have been received from the monitoring hospitals in patients with Covid-19 infection.

Over the past week, the number of Covid-19 cases in Latvia decreased by 7.6% compared to the previous week. The laboratory confirmed 158 cases of Covid-19. The proportion of positive tests increased by 0.2%. Compared to the previous week, the number of patients in hospitals with confirmed Covid-19 infection decreased by 12.7%.
