Health Minister: toughest time in pandemic is over in Latvia

Take note – story published 2 years ago

Health Minister Daniels Pavļuts said in an interview to Latvian Radio March 10 that the most difficult time of the pandemic could be over.

Last week the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 in Latvia decreased by nearly 20% and currently hospital load is also decreasing, which is an important signal that the situation is improving.

The bad news is that mortality has increased slightly, but the minister is also expecting improvements soon, as a similar scenario has been observed in all countries with large waves of Omicron-type morbidity. “We hope that the worst will be over here soon, and there is a spring for us,” Pavļuts added.

Pavļuts said that the great unknown in relation to Covid-19 is whether the virus will return in the autumn and which strain. The public is therefore called upon to be ready and vaccinated.
