Hospital issues warning after deaths of children who did not receive shots

After two children died due to not receiving vaccines and shots, the Rīga's Children's Clinical University Hospital has issued a call for parents not to eschew vaccinating their children.

One of the children had developed a whooping cough and died due to serious complications related to not receiving a vaccine for the disease. The other child had not received a vitamin K shot following a home birth, and this in turn caused a haemorrhage in the infant's brain, leading to its death.

The hospital staff have issued an open letter, reminding parents that vaccines and vitamin K shots are very important prophylactic measures aimed to reduce infant mortality.

"Why risk your children's life? Why seek a justification for doing nothing and casting doubt on the safety and efficiency of vaccination? How many children must harm their health or lose their lives so that we start believing in the efficiency of vaccines and come to terms with the consequence of our mistaken decisions?" the medical professionals ask.

"By refusing vaccines and forgoing safe, certified and effective therapeutic guidelines we, adults and professionals, put the lives of children at risk, just as the children's right to a healthy life," the letter says.
