Hospitalized patient number up 15% last week in Latvia

From February 7 to February 13, the number of Covid-19 patients in hospitals increased by 15.9%, the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) reported February 14.

On average, 147 people arrived in hospitals a day, of which an average of 7% had severe symptoms.

The number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 increased by 12.1%, and the number of tests performed grew by 5.4%. On average, 23,613 tests were performed daily, while on average 9,788 new cases of Covid-19 were reported daily.

Of all tests conducted, 13% or 21,744 tests were related to screening of educational establishments, while 87% or 143,550 tests were in the rest of the population. Of the positive cases of Covid-19, 10% (6,742 infected) were associated with the screening of educational establishments, while 90% (61,775 infected) in the rest of the community.

Last week, Covid-19 infection was reported equally frequently in people who had received primary vaccination as in unvaccinated/partially vaccinated people in Latvia, but 2.3 times less frequently in those who had also received a booster vaccine.
