Latvia is experiencing an increase in the incidence of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from last week, Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) said April 12.

Last week's rise against the previous week is 7.1%, according to SPKC.

The number of newly identified cases over the past week increased to 3,503 infected (3,272 seven days ago) or an average of 513 new cases per day.

The rate of patients in Covid-19 hospitals is constant: over seven days, the number of hospital patients decreased by 0.2%, with an average of 61 people brought in per day (seven days ago – 62 hospitalized patients per day).

Increase continued in age groups 10-19 years and 20-29 years, however, the rest of the age groups show a decrease in total when analyzing the figures over two weeks.

The reproduction factor of Covid-19 infection is currently at 1.18 and has risen sharply (a week earlier at 0.83).

Epidemiologists still call for special care of hand hygiene, correct use of facial mask (covering the nose and chin), working remotely, but if it is not possible, avoiding work and public places even with the smallest symptoms of respiratory disease (e.g. sore throat, cough, increased body temperature).
