Latvia records 9,800 cases of Covid-19, twelve deaths

Another 9,831 cases new cases of Covid-19 were confirmed February 3 in Latvia, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

This is the second-highest number recorded in a single day, the record hit the day before. 

Of those, 3,928 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 5,903 were fully vaccinated.

Of 25,514 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 38.5% were positive, a figure consistent with recent days. However, the 14-day cumulative morbidity rate per 100,000 population also reached a new record level, climbing from 5,190 Wednesday to 5451.3 Thursday.

 

Since the beginning of the pandemic 422,233 Covid-19 cases have been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Sadly, 12 more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed February 3. The youngest of the victims was aged 40 to 49 years. Four of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 4,923.

Thursday data from the National Health Service show 929 patients being treated in hospital (up from 919 Wednesday), of whom 515 have the primary diagnosis Covid-19. 128 patients were admitted and 106 discharged during the last 24 hours. 73 patients are displaying serious symptoms.

 

In the other Baltic states, Estonia recorded over 6,800 cases during the last 24 hours while Lithuania had over 12,000 cases for the second day in a row.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia. It is available at the website covidpass.lv
