Take note – story published 3 years ago

The number of people infected with Covid-19 increased in Latvia following several weeks of reduction, according to information published by Disease Prevention and Control Center March 22.

Last week the incidence increased by 5.2% and an average of 518 new infections per day were detected (493 a week ago).

The number of tests performed reduced by 3.6%, with an average positive test rate of 4.1% (3.8% a week ago). A total of 3,518 new Covid-19 infections have been recorded in the last week (3,450 last week).

In all regions of Latvia and all age groups there is an increase in morbidity, except among children.

The coefficient of reproduction (R) of Covid-19 infection calculated by epidemiologists is currently 1.02 in Latvia, which means that 102 other people are infected by 100 ill people.

The increase in the prevalence of new virus types, including the South African strain, may contribute to a rapid increase in morbidity, the SPKC warned.

The SPKC's recommendations on travel remain unchanged – to carefully assess all risks and not to travel outside Latvia on unnecessary trips.
