The Covid-19 Vaccination Project Department of the National Health Service (NVD) will complete its work by the end of June, according to the Minister of Health Daniels Pavļuts' statement on Latvian Television May 30.

Pavļuts said that currently 6 out of 10 Vaccination Department employees have already terminated their employment and the others will work until the end of June.

At the end of the department's activities, other health care department institutions – the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) and NVD will take over their functions, the minister added.

Pavļuts said that during the vaccination process for Covid-19 in Latvia, the Vaccination Bureau, later – NVD Vaccination Project Department, played an important role in organizing mass vaccinations.

“This unit was set up to carry out a nationwide vaccination project. The work has been done and 1.3 million people have been vaccinated. It must now return to the basic framework,” said Pavļuts, adding that if it is necessary to take some steps in the autumn to combat the Covid pandemic, the NVD and the SPKC will have to deal with it.
