Medics and patients test positive for COVID-19 at oncology center

Testing at the Latvian Oncology Center this Wednesday revealed 21 COVID-19 cases among the hospital's patients, said Ilga Namniece, a spokeswoman for Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital, reported by the LETA news agency December 4, adding that several medics and auxiliary staff also tested positive for the virus. 

The hospital's representative indicated that the Oncology Center will continue to provide all the necessary inpatient and outpatient treatment to the cancer patients. 

To protect cancer patients and the hospital's staff, as well as the prevent a further spread of Covid-19, the operative management group of Eastern Clinical University Hospital decided to temporary close abdominal surgery unit and take all the necessary epidemiological measures to make sure the hospital is able to provide all the necessary medical assistance to patients, including surgeries, diagnostical examination and consultations.

To ensure uninterrupted treatment of abdominal surgery patients, some of them will be transferred for examination and treatment to the general and emergency surgery clinic of the Gailezers hospital.
