Take note – story published 2 years ago

On February 14, 2022, Latvia recorded just over 4,000 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). Monday's figure is usually the lowest of the week due to a smaller number of tests being carried out on Sundays.

Of 4,144 newly-confirmed cases, 1,434 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 2,710 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 9,431 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 43.9% were positive, a figure consistent with recent days. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population hit another all-time high, but rose only very slightly from 6,847 Sunday to 6,866 Monday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic 522,766 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Unfortunately, five more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All of the victims were aged over 70 years. Two of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,029.

Sunday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,145 patients being treated in hospitals (up on 1,064 on Saturday). 113 patients were admitted and 13 discharged during the previous 24 hours. 77 patients are displaying serious symptoms.
