Vaccination against monkeypox is not planned to be extended to the general public. In line with the recommendations of the State Council of Immunization, vaccination against monkeypox will be offered to risk groups - contact persons with monkeypox and medical personnel, including laboratory staff. Vaccines will be available at the university hospitals and regional hospitals.
The contact status is determined by the epidemiologists of the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). The final vaccination decision shall be taken by a doctor.
Four cases of monkeypox have been confirmed in Latvia so far. During the epidemiological investigation, the SPKC found that all sources of confirmed cases of monkeypox were encountered outside Latvia, and local transmission has not been established. All four cases have been epidemiologically contained.
