On February 8 Latvia recorded 11,144 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC). This is the highest daily total of the pandemic so far and the first time more than 11,000 cases have been recorded in a single 24-hour period.

Of that total, 4,399 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 6,745 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 25,110 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 44.4% were positive. After a small fall from Sunday to Monday, the 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population returned to an upward trajectory and reached a new record, rising from 6,035 Monday to 6,301 Tuesday.

Since the beginning of the pandemic 464,895 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Unfortunately, nine more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All of the victims were aged over 50 years. Four of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 4,969.

The number of patients being treated in hospital remains around the 1,000 mark.
