National Health Service director Inga Milaševiča will step down after the Health Ministry has launched a disciplinary case against her, the ministry said September 30.

Based on the decision on the disciplinary punishment, Milaševiča will take a lower position with lower pay.

Milaševiča has been in the position of the NVD director since January 2017.

The Health Ministry said Milaševiča's deputy, Edgars Labsvīrs takes over at the post starting October 1.

Previously the Health Ministry reported that there have been possible violations in ICT procurements in the service.

Incidentally, Labsvīrs said one of his priorities in office would be developing ICT solutions at the service.

"Effective administration of health care services and transparent decisions are impossible without modern ICT infrastructure and an ability to work with data. Data are a precondition for a people-oriented policy in the health care industry," said Labsvīrs.

The National Health Service is an administrative institution that implements state policies in healthcare.
