One compensation case for Covid vaccine side effects to be paid in Latvia

A compensation of EUR 5,000 will be paid in one case where the effects of vaccination against Covid-19 have been harmful to a patients' health, according to a government decision of November 8.

On October 12 , the State Agency for Medicines (ZVA) decided to grant a payment of EUR 5,000 for a vaccine against Covid-19 infection with a “Janssen” vaccine which caused "moderate harm" to a patient's health.

The money for the payment of compensation will be allocated to the Ministry of Health from the State budget contingency funds.

In accordance with the Covid-19 Management Law, the Cabinet determines the requirements and procedures for requesting, granting, and paying compensation or refusing the granting thereof, as well as determining the amount of compensation to be paid in accordance with the severity of the damage, up to a maximum of EUR 142,290, if serious or moderate damage to the health or life of the patient has occurred due to the vaccine against Covid-19 infection.

The body responsible for the granting and payment of the amount of compensation is the ZVA.
