In State social care centers (VSAC), 11% of residents are currently confirmed to be COVID-19 positive, Welfare Ministry's (LM) senior expert, Egita Dorožkina told LETA December 16.

By the beginning of the week, LM knew about infections in 13 VSAC branches. These are 425 residents, or 11% of the total number of VSAC residents, of which 414 are quarantined, nine are dead, while the others are in a hospital facility. A further 1067 clients are in self-isolation to exclude the risk of further transmission of infectious disease.

119 employees are quarantined, while 66 employees as contacts are in self-isolation.

Large outbreaks of Covid-19 have been recorded not only in state but also in municipal and privately managed social care facilities.

Repeated testing initiated by the Ministry of Health (HM) in all long-term social care and social rehabilitation institutions, including VSAC, has now been launched. Dorožkina explained that some of the cases were asymptomatic and discovered during this test.

Therefore, the distribution of personal protective equipment and disinfectants purchased from State budget funds is organized as a priority directly to long-term social care and social rehabilitation institutions, depending on the number of residents in them. In total, 646,000 protective masks, 18 350 face screens, 236 500 pairs of gloves, 131 600 respirators, 49 050 medical overalls have been issued. 43 040 liters of disinfectant surfaces and 39 720 liters for the hands of disinfectants have also been distributed, according to LETA information.
