Record number of second-dose jabs received Wednesday in Latvia

The largest number of people who received the second dose of the vaccine was recorded Wednesday, according to the latest data compiled by the National Health Service (NVD), LETA reported May 20.

On Wednesday, a total of 16,715 people were vaccinated against Covid-19 in Latvia, of whom 5,703 received the first dose of the vaccine, and 10,483 - the second dose, but 1081 people were vaccinated with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which requires only one dose. Previously the highest number of second doses was administered May 14, when the figure was 8,410.

The number of people vaccinated in recent days could increase, as not all medics report data on their vaccines to the National Health Service on the same day that the patient is vaccinated.

To date, 410,079 people have received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine in Latvia, but 142,474 people have completed the vaccination process. A total of 552,553 injections of Covid-19 have been administered in the country.

According to the data of the Central Statistical Bureau, on January 1, 2021, Latvia had a provisional population of 1.894 million, so 21.71% of the population have received the first vaccine dose against Covid-19, but 7.54% have completed the vaccination process.
