Rīga 1st Hospital opens special Covid-19 department

Riga 1st Hospital will open a department for Covid-19 patients on Saturday, January 30, Latvian Television said Friday.

With municipal and government cooperation the new department was allocated EUR 389 000 for reconstruction and recruitment.

It is expected that this will allow another 50 patients to be hospitalized. The department will employ a total of 57 workers, including 26 doctors. Currently, the number of patients treated in hospitals of Latvia is high - over 1,000.

Rīga Mayor Mārtiņš Staķis said that this hospital was the first outpatient institution adapted to inpatient care to help Covid-19 patients. The hospital's management said that its staff showed high readiness to engage in the treatment and care of Covid-19 patients.

On Saturday, the first ten patients are planned to be transferred to the new unit.
