Six Covid-19 deaths in Latvia Saturday

On February 19, 2022, Latvia recorded nearly 12,000 new cases of Covid-19, according to the latest figures from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC).

Of 11,992 newly-confirmed cases, 4,514 cases were recorded in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people, while 7,478 were fully vaccinated.

Out of 28,210 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 42.5 % were positive. The 14-day cumulative incidence rate per 100,000 of the population hit another all-time high, rising from 7,120 Friday to 7199.2 Saturday. Since the beginning of the pandemic 579,168 Covid-19 cases have now been recorded among Latvia's 1.9 million population.

Unfortunately, six more Covid-related deaths were also confirmed. All victims were aged over 60 years. Three of the dead were fully vaccinated. The total death toll since the beginning of the pandemic stands at 5,099.

Friday hospital data from the National Health Service show 1,214 patients being treated in hospitals (up on 1,210 on Thursday). 152 patients were admitted and 135 discharged during the previous 24 hours. 78 patients were displaying serious symptoms.

The dedicated hotline for Covid-19 related inquiries (24 hours, 7 days a week) is 8345​. The number for medical emergencies is 113. There is a Latvian-language hotline 8989 which allows people to both register for vaccination and receive answers to questions about the process of vaccination.

If you have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19, or you have fully recovered from a confirmed case of it, you can obtain a digital certificate attesting to your status at the website https://covid19sertifikats.lv.

Latvia is also part of the European Union's wider Covid-19 certification scheme. All arrivals to the country (including returnees) still need to fill in an electronic declaration prior to coming to Latvia at the website covidpass.lv until March 1, when the requirement will be dropped.
