Some restrictions to remain, says Health Minister of Latvia

Take note – story published 3 years ago

Despite not extending the state of emergency in Latvia after June 9, there will be restrictions to remain at least until the end of the year, Ilze Viņķele, Minister for Health (Development/For) said in an interview to Latvian Radio on June 8.

The Minister stressed that following the emergency situation there would be a requirement to respect the two-meter distance in  certain places, as well as comply with strict hand hygiene. In places where there is an intensive flow of people, employers will be required to provide protective barriers and face masks.

As of June 10, up to 100 people will be allowed to gather indoors and up to 300 outdoors.

Face masks remain to be worn in public transport; in outdoor cafes, up to 8 people can sit at one table, provided tables have 2 meters between them.

The trend is now downward, while 40% of newly identified cases are people who have returned from abroad. The Minister calls for tests to be carried out on those people and others, including without symptoms.
