"Stop COVID" app has helped 110 times already in Latvia

Latvia's Apturi Covid (Stop Covid) app has already been activated 110 times to alert the contacts of people infected with COVID-19, and is a good assistant for epidemiologists, Iveta Gavare told Latvian Television October 23.

Stop Covid has so far been downloaded 175,000 times, Gavare said. She also invited people to use the app even more to help epidemiologists.

Gavare said epidemiologists were very busy. When the incidence was lower, the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) was able to identify the source of infection in 80% of cases, but this percentage has decreased in the last two weeks due to an increase in working with contact persons.

On average, one epidemiologist has to work with five new infections per day, about 15 contacts and some 15 family doctors, Gavare said. Sometimes people hide something or do not tell the whole truth. It is usually revealed in 3-7 days when other people who have been in contact with the ill person are tested positive.

Because of the high workload of epidemiologists, it is important that the public help as much as possible, including the use of the contact-tracking app Apturi Covid, said Gavare.
