Weekly Covid-19 case count dropped by a third in Latvia

From March 14 to March 20, the number of newly identified cases of Covid-19 decreased by 29.6%, according to data from the Disease Prevention and Control Center (SPKC) on March 21.

The number of patients in hospitals decreased by 15% and on average 115 people were hospitalized daily (138 the week before).

Last week, on average, 9,624 tests were conducted daily and an average of 5,100 new cases daily were detected.

The reproduction rate of Covid-19 infection (R) continued to decrease in the week ended with a decrease to 0.77 (a week earlier, 0.84).

The reduction in morbidity with Covid-19 is observed in all age groups, as well as in most regions of Latvia. An increase is observed in the Latgale region.

Last week, the incidence of Covid-19 was 1.2 times less common in people who had received a booster vaccine (compared to the intensity of infection per 100,000 inhabitants) than in unvaccinated people.
