When does the Covid certificate expire in Latvia?

Take note – story published 2 years ago

The National Health Service (NVD) issued a reminder on July 7 that the digital Covid-19 certificate, in some cases, can have an expiry date. Check your certificate before attending an event to avoid unpleasant situations, NVD said.

Vaccination certificate

The vaccination certificate does not have an expiry date after the full cycle of vaccination has been completed. NVD provided a reminder that the date from which it was considered valid should be taken into account. If the certificate is intended to be used in Latvia, it will be valid on the 16th day following vaccination with the Janssen vaccine or the second jab of Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. In the case of AstraZeneca, the certificate will be valid after the receipt of the first dose from day 22 to 90 and immediately after the receipt of the second jab.
Coming from abroad, the vaccination certificate will only be valid on the 16th day after finishing the vaccination process in all manufacturers’ vaccines.

Certificate of disease

In accordance with the decision adopted by the European Commission, the certificate of having had and overcome the disease shall be available on the 11th day following a positive laboratory test result (SARS-Cov2 RNA). Previously, in Latvia, such certificates could be created earlier, but they became valid on day 11. The period of validity of the certificate of disease shall be 180 days from the positive test result.

Laboratory test result certificate

The covid-19 laboratory test result certificate shall be valid from the time the test sample was taken. The test sampling time on the certificate is indicated after the GMT/UTC +0 time zone. The term of validity depends on the type of test and the national requirements for the presentation of the test in certain cases (e.g. visiting a cultural event, receiving the service, etc.).

The rapid antigen test can be valid for 6 or 24 hours, while the SARS CoV-2 RNA test can be valid for 48 or 72 hours.

The validity of your digital Covid-19 certificate can be verified by using the “Verify Certificate” button on the covid19sertifikats.lv website.

You can also scan the certificate's QR code using the “Covid19Verify” mobile app, which is available on the App Store and Google Play Store.

Revocation of certificates

NVD drew attention to the fact that, in certain cases, the digital Covid-19 certificate could have been revoked. For example, if the person has two names or surnames, there were previous cases where the formatting was incorrect. These certificates have now been improved according to the uniform model of the European Union. Certificates containing other errors could also have been revoked.
In that case, the person should visit the covid19sertifikats.lv website and download or print the new certificate that has been created automatically.
