Take note – story published 4 years ago

A Latvian chef living in the United Kingdom has won one million pounds (1.17 million euros) on the national lottery, the BBC reported.

Latvian Didzis Pirags, aged 36, "won the cash while playing online during his lunch break at the Phantom Winger pub in Broughton, Preston, on Saturday," the BBC said.

Pirags had been living in the UK for nine years and immediately used the money to buy a house, while promising to use the rest to provide a suitable upbringing for his son, the BBC said in a story that stressed the fact that despite his good fortune, the chef still showed up for work.
