Campaign asks public to enjoy sunflowers and donate

Enjoy the beauty of sunflowers and help someone in need. With this goal, sunflower fields have been sown close to the roads throughout Latvia. People are invited to take photos with the sunflowers and pay for the scenery in the “People have Power” program on the “Ziedot.lv” platform. The money in there will help someone in sudden trouble, Skrunda Television reported on August 31.

One of these fields also blooms in the municipality of Kuldīga in Raņķi. A German businessman, Voelker Hoepner, has sown it. He has been involved in this campaign for the second year.

To do this, the cooperative 'Latraps' offers sunflower seeds to its members, and farmers sow them in one of their well-accessible fields, then place informative signs that invite the public to take photos, share pictures, cut some flowers and donate.

In support of this campaign, around 83 hectares of sunflowers have been sown throughout Latvia this year. Latraps has created a map on its home page showing their location.

“Entering all these fields, finding these fields, maintaining these fields, it's every farmer's own thing. Consequently, it is a huge thanks also from our side that they care so much about these fields that we have something to put on this map,” said Latraps communication specialist Lāsma Gumennikova.

Around €500 has already been donated from around 30 people who have come to the sunflower fields.
