The Palidzibaskarte.lv map is available in six languages and provides information about different organizations in Latvia for various types of assistance.
Linda Jākobsone-Gavala, a board member of the Society “I Want to Help Refugees”, said the map was originally designed to provide support for Ukrainian refugees.
“The map was created last March. Indeed, the main aim was to help Ukrainians, because there were a very large number of Ukrainian people arriving at that time, and there was a very strong demand for them to understand where, how to go, where, what can be found,” said Jākobsone-Gavala.
However, in view of inflation and the fact that assistance was also needed for other people, the map has been improved and adapted for all Latvian residents.
“Of course, there are also refugees living in Latvia who do not speak either Ukrainian, Latvian or Russian, or English languages, in which we originally created “Palidzibaskarte.lv”, so we have now added information in Arabic, and in the near future the map will be available in six languages, and the sixth language that we will add will be Farsi because we see [the demand],” said Jākobsone-Gavala.
She added that refugees, already living in Latvia, are experiencing new needs, so the content of the website is evolving, not only by offering different things but also integration measures, such as language courses.
The map currently contains information about 89 different organizations with 145 points across Latvia.
