Daugavpils is a city with ancient history, unique and authentic objects. Artist Mark Rothko's works are also unique and authentic. This is a testament to the project's motto “Autenthic is forever” by signing a memorandum on cooperation in the network of cities of authenticity in Daugavpils, said Patent Office Director Agris Batalauskis. He stressed that it was a new and interesting project.
“In the context of the Baltic States, Latvia is the only one that has found opportunities to cooperate with local governments. We already started cooperation with Liepāja. The municipality of Daugavpils was forthcoming to cooperate with the Daugavpils University within the framework of this network to combat counterfeiting and its spread,“ explained Batalauskis. “Over the next two years, we will focus on informing citizens about protecting intellectual property.”
“For people to understand the importance of this, they must understand that we're not talking about companies' profits here, but purely about their own interest. When you order counterfeit products, when you buy them, for example, by mail that comes too, a lot is taken out. It has now tripled in Latvia. This means that: people should be aware when choosing such products that there is a high likelihood that they will not get their product, lose money. The other thing is that people also have to think a lot about their safety and health in these cases.”
When buying authentic, we often support the local as well, and these are also opportunities for the development of the national economy and also local producers, the Patent Office adds.
