In 2022, Latvian residents and businesses donated €19 million to the charity platform “Ziedot.lv”, Ilze Ošāne, head of communications for Ziedot.lv, told LETA December 12.

According to her, it is around €55,000 a day, which is transformed into practical assistance for people in difficulty. “Ziedot.lv” donations are used to pay for the necessary assistance or purchasing things for people in difficulty.

A total of €15 million has been donated to support Ukraine. Of these, 8 million has been channeled to the Ukrainian armed forces, the Territorial Protection Units, the army and the police. Defense goods such as drones, quadrocopters, jeeps, chainsaws, walkie-talkies, night-vision equipment, armor helmets, tactical clothing and special food, fuel and generators manufactured in Latvia, and custom quadricycles have been purchased for donations.

A further €3.5 million has gone into shipping 100 loads with humanitarian aid, including food products, hygiene products, generators, and others things.

€1.8 million bought medical goods and medicines for Ukrainian hospitals and territorial protection units, and €1.7 million was used to provide aid to Ukrainian refugees in Latvia. Practical and acute assistance has been provided to Ukrainian refugee families by paying for medical treatment, dental care, food and pharmacy gift cards, providing warm meals daily, purchasing computer equipment for pupils, oil radiators and other practical and necessary items.

The transfer of assistance is organized in cooperation with the Ministries of Defense and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, the Embassy of Latvia in Ukraine, and the support of Latvian Honours citizens in Ukraine, the embassy of Ukraine in Latvia, as well as the Ukrainian charities.

Four million euro donations have come to support Latvian people. Of these, €1.6 million of aid for adult medical treatment has been provided.  A further €1.1 million of aid has been provided to Latvian non-governmental organizations, whereas one million euros supports the rehabilitation and treatment of children.

€0.3 million of assistance is used to address social problems: pay for the purchase of wood, household appliances, food products, and emergency aid.

“Ziedot.lv” noted that since 2003, all donations 100% go to the intended target.
