The city's main Christmas trees will be located in Doma Square and Town Square (Rātslaukums). Rīga Mayor Vilnis Ķirsis chose the trees together with Rīga's 45th Secondary School Youth Guard unit.
Both fir trees are scheduled to be brought to the capital next week.
Rīga Forests is a municipal company founded in 2008 that manages the forests, gardens and parks belonging to the capital. The company manages 62,000 hectares (ha) of forests, and 399 ha of Riga parks and the cultural and recreational park "Mežaparks" (385 ha).
Rīga lays claim to being the home of the Christmas tree – despite Tallinn in Estonia making a similar claim – which you can read about in this story from our archive on the subject.
