As of July 1, a crisis accommodation service is to be implemented throughout Latvia, which will be paid for by the state, the government agreed on Tuesday, June 27.

Currently, the crisis housing service is provided only by individual municipalities from their own resources. In the future, crisis housing will be available throughout the country.

Crisis housing will be available for people at high risk of violence where human life and health are at risk and this is confirmed by an assessment by a specialist of the social service or social rehabilitation service provider on an adult victim of violence, minors, as well as other people with whom the victim has lived in an undivided household.

It is also possible, if necessary, to obtain individual expert advice or support from a trusted person in dealing with daily life issues.

The service is scheduled to be up to 30 days, but if necessary, it can be extended to 180 days, the Ministry of Welfare (LM) said.
