Siren test in Latvia on May 31

The State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) has announced that on Wednesday, May 31, it will test its sirens and alarms between 10:00 and 10:20 in the morning.

There are 164 sirens installed throughout Latvia that can be heard within a 1.5-kilometer radius.

They will be switched on throughout the country in the morning between 10:00 and 10:20 for three minutes for a test run. Residents are asked not to worry.

The Ukrainian residents in the territory of Latvia will be sent an SMS with this information.

VUGD recalled that if residents have not previously been alerted to the siren check, residents should switch on television and radio (Latvian public service media: Latvian Television (LTV) channels LTV1 and LTV7, or Latvian Radio broadcasting channels) or other devices such as mobile telephone radio broadcasts to receive information on the reason for the activation of the alarm sirens and the necessary action.

The alarms serve the purpose of warning residents about a natural or technogenic disaster in case one occurs.
