In the coming days, new citizens will receive notification by post from the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP), which will contain information about their admission to citizenship and the way to apply for a passport.

Since 1995 147,812 persons have been admitted to Latvian citizenship by naturalization. So far in 2020 644 persons have done so.

In order to become a Latvian citizen through naturalization, a person must confirmed their basic proficiency in the Latvian language, as well as successfully pass short examinations on the Constitution, the text of the national anthem and knowledge of Latvian history.
