60 people receive Latvian citizenship through naturalization

The Cabinet of Ministers on August 21 issued a decree granting Latvian citizenship to 60 persons, including five children who have been naturalized together with their parents.

Most of the citizenship candidates, or 76 percent, are ethnic Russians, 3 percent are Ukrainians, 10 percent Belarusians and others are people with other ethnic background like Lithuanians and Poles.

Of the newly naturalized persons, 16 percent have elementary education, 49 percent have secondary education and 32 percent have higher education.

Altogether, 146,015 persons have become naturalized Latvian citizens since 1995.
