Close to 32,000 register for Holy Mass with Pope Francis

A total of 31,902 people have registered for the September 24 Holy Mass with Pope Francis in Aglona, including people from abroad, the Information Centre of Roman Catholic Church in Latvia told the press August 24.

Out of these, 14,845 people applied electronically and 17,057 did so at their local parish.

Most people registered from the local Rēzekne-Aglona diocese (16,697) followed by 10,255 in Rīga.

The total number includes 919 people from Abroad, mostly from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Lithuania and other countries.

On September 24 Pope Francis will visit Latvia as part of his September 22-25 Baltic visit. The Holy Mass at the Basilica of Aglona is likely to be the central event of the visit. It will start at 4.30 p.m. but attendants are invited to arrive by 3:30 p.m. 

September 24 has been pronounced a national holiday in Latvia.
