Cold record for Oct 8 broken

A new national cold record was registered in Vidzeme Region this morning, as the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center told LETA news agency.

Zoseni weather station registered a new October 8 cold record this morning - minus 5.8 degrees Celsius. The former record - minus 5.6 degrees - was registered in 1999.

Temperature in Latvia this morning ranged from minus 1 to minus 5.8 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperatures were registered in Zoseni, Jelgava, and Lielpeci.

On October 7, spokeswoman for central heating utility "Rigas siltums", Linda Rence told LETA that the heating season is upon us once again, as requested by customers - private and corporate.
