Concert to mark end of writers Rainis' and Aspazija's sesquicentennial

On December 9 the Latvian National Library will host the end event of the 150th year since the birth of literary greats Rainis and Aspazija, reported Latvian Radio Monday. 

The concert will feature choir songs by youth composers as well as an abridged version of the musically-poetical journey 'Dagdas skiču burtnīcas' after the motifs of a book by Rainis.

It will start at 5 PM with a discussion, while at 7 PM the concert will kick off with 7 newly-composed pieces by youth composers. 

The pieces will be performed by the Latvian Culture Academy choir Sōla, the youth choir Balsis, the chamber choir Austrums, choir Jasmīna and the youth choir Kamēr.

While the second part of the concert will feature a performance of an abridged version of Dagdas skiču burtnīcas, a conceptual journey through the poetry of Rainis' eponymous poetry book.

The invite-only concert will end with an awards ceremony for the young composers. The whole ordeal will be available on lsm.lv - LSM's Latvian-language website.

The anniversary program will continue on December 12 in Jūrmala. There, the Dubulti art station will open an exhibition dedicated to Aspazija.
