Daugavpils children's home suspends all staff over suspected violence

Due to reported violence against children, the Daugavpils child care institution “Pīlādzis” has suspended all employees,  LETA reported on September 19.

The head of Daugavpils Orphan's Court, Elita Praņevska, said that no information can be disclosed at the time. In accordance with the Law on the Protection of the Children's Rights, the Orphan's Court has reported the events to the police, the Inspectorate for the Protection of the Children's Rights, and the employer - the local government.

The Daugavpils City Council dismissed Līvija Drozde, head of Daugavpils Social Service, during a closed meeting on Thursday, September 15.

“Members of the city council have come to the conclusion that there was not enough organized control from the head of the Social Service,” Ruslans Golovans, head of the Legal Department of Daugavpils City Council, told Latvian Radio.

The State Police have confirmed that an investigation has been carried out and the case has been referred to the State Inspectorate for Protection of Children's Rights.
