Police did not identify any serious breaches on the first day of opening summer terraces of restaurants, Latvian Radio reported May 8.

As of May 7, outdoor terraces of cafes and restaurants are allowed to host guests while observing epidemiological safety requirements set by the state, including gathering limits and restricted working hours. On Friday, many people were happy to take the opportunity to dine in.

Municipal Police Chief Juris Lūkass said: “Large offenses in the operation of terraces were not identified. There were individual cases where businesses had interpreted the rules differently, but as a result of our monitoring we resolved the unclear issues. The local government police will continue to monitor epidemiological restrictions, including checking summer terraces."
