First pilgrims depart for Aglona celebration

Take note – story published 5 years ago

The first Roman Catholic pilgrims have departed to the annual gathering, held August 15 each year in Aglona.

The annual Aglona pilgrimage sees thousands of Roman Catholics from Latvia and beyond making their way - many by foot - to the out-of-the way church.

The first pilgrims departed from Liepāja, western Latvia.

On August 13 it is planned that a group of pilgrims who departed in May and who will have traveled around the Latvian border will arrive at the site.
