The Cabinet of Ministers ruled Tuesday to contribute €40,000 toward United Nations funding efforts toward the fight against the Ebola virus plaguing several West African nations and threatening to spread beyond to individual cases in North America and Europe.

The monies were procured from the contingency resources set aside in the 2014 national budget.

Foreign Affairs Minister Edgars Rinkevics had called for up to €50,000 to be immediately diverted into the effort to stem the disease to the West African states where it has broken out.
