The city expects to spend €9m on the two streets in total, representative of the Rīga City Council Ilze Dimante told Latvian Radio.
The bicycle lane on Lāčplēša st. is to be replaced with concrete slabs like that on Barona st.
"Drivers should expect serious construction work this season and traffic jams will follow," said Dimante.
Construction on Brīvības st. will stretch from the Freedom Monument until the Lāčplēša st. intersection and continue from the VEF bridge until the Silciema st. cross. While Lāčplēša st. is to be reconstructed fully.
Construction is expected to start in June and last until September, however this can change as the city is only now looking into the tender offers.
