Forests and peat are burning in the area, in central-western Latvia, with the flames rapidly spreading, exacerbated by the dry and windy weather, the service said.
Nevertheless no one is in danger as there are no houses nearby.
"It's a very boggy place that's difficult to approach. But firemen have successfully made it to the location, including [specialists of] the State Forestry Service," said Inta Palkavniece, a representative of the service.
A fire warning is in force across all of Latvia, with people asked not to start fires near woods as even a single strike of a match can have disastrous consequences.
